Text Box:  Amanda Amend is an artist, linguist, and musician, whose career path has taken her from her native state of California, across the U.S., and abroad.  She holds a bachelor's degree in music, a teaching certification in Spanish, and a Master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.  After 17 years of teaching English and Spanish language learners in Spain, Mexico, and at Saint Michael's College, she has retired to dedicate herself to watercolor painting.           


Amanda is largely self-taught.  In her seven years of painting she has enjoyed a residency at the Vermont Studio Center, and she has earned signature membership in the Vermont Watercolor Society.  Her work has been shown in Vermont at the Helen Day Arts Center, the Grafton Inn, the Chandler Center for the Arts, the Chaffee Arts Center, the Vermont Studio Center, the Davis Center at UVM, Burlington's South End Arts and Business Administration, and the Rae Harrell Gallery, and her works are in private collections around the U.S.  Most recently, Amanda's painting "El Portal, Sevilla," pictured to the left, won the Red Barn Art Show Painting of Distinction Award, at the Green Mountain Watercolor Exhibition at the Red Barn Gallery in Waitsfield.
