Presents
Summer Landscape Painting with Andrew Orr
A three day plein air painting workshop with Vermont artist Andrew Orr
Tuesday – Thursday, August 16 – 18, 2011
The workshop will include two plein air painting sessions per day, and feature an evening session on the second day, discussing the artwork in progress, and enjoying a light supper together.
The painting locations in and around Jeffersonville, Vermont, selected by Orr, will change each day, according to the vicissitudes of the weather, with a morning session and an afternoon session at each place. To allow for more in depth work, the students will return to the same location each morning while the afternoon sessions will be held in a different location. Andrew will give demonstrations, individual critiques as well as group critique sessions at the end of each painting day.
Andrew Orr
Andrew Orr is a widely exhibited landscape painter and has enjoyed participation with shows and events at galleries in the New England and Northeast region. An award winning artist, his work was twice selected to receive the Arthur T. Hill Memorial Award for a landscape by an artist under the age of 45 from the Salmagundi Club in New York. He is the winner of the Claude Parsons Memorial Award for a landscape from the National Exhibition of the American Artists Professional League, and recently he received an honorable mention in the Land and Light and Water and Air 2011 Exhibition at Bryan Memorial Gallery. He brings to this workshop the passion and expertise of his painting, combined with the familiarity of a native son toward his homeland. Orr’s love of the natural world, and his gentle teaching methods enhance his experience and expertise in seeking to capture light and atmosphere in paintings on canvas.
Participation
Artists in any medium are welcome, though Andrew’s expertise is in painting with oils. Artists at any stage of their development are welcome, though all participants should expect to start at least three paintings during the workshop, with concentrated work on one more-developed painting. Weather permitting, we will be painting in plein air all three days.
Schedule
Participants will meet at Bryan Memorial Gallery each morning at 8 AM, and will paint until 4 PM on Tuesday and Thursday. On Wednesday, participants will return to the gallery after painting in the afternoon, for a critique and a light supper. A more thorough schedule will be provided in response to your registration.
